Day #11 Dick's Creek Gap to Muskrat Creek Shelter

March 19, 2018

So this morning Knope and I headed to the Budget Inn but the shuttle was full so we decided to hitch for the first time. 1 minute after sticking our thumbs out we had a ride from an old man with a dog named Regis. He was the cutest, the man was super nice and we survived so first hitchhiking experience was a success.

Regis called shotgun

We actually beat the Florida Boys to the trailhead but they caught up not long after we started hiking. We all hiked together for awhile but then broke off into our own little groups. We all waited until the 7 of us were together to cross the NC/GA border as the "Seven Dwarves". Arriving at the border was less than ceremonial, so much so that we all laughed. The little sign on a random tree in the middle of a foggy forest marked our crossing. Sparky set up his camera for a group shot, one normal and one Abbey Road pose. Then we moved on and snacked a bit before two hard climbs up to the shelter. What a welcome into North Carolina, jeez.

We made it there worn out and just got Knope's tent set up when it began to downpour. We had a sleepover again and made mac n cheese in her vestibules and then watched a few episodes of the Office. It stormed off and on most of the night.
